Tissue engineering container:

Artificial tissues, for example cartilage for medical implantation can be generated within new tissue carriers. Since depending on their application these implants need to have flat, concave or convex surfaces, special tissue carriers are required.

A special tool is used to shape the original flat surface of the support into the desired concavity or convexity as known from the surface of articular cartilage for example.

The concavity or convexity for the tissue is coated with a biocompatible fleece and artificial extracellular matrix, for example fibrin glue. The compounds may contain growth and differentiation factors for a guided proliferation of cells on the biodegradable matrix. By this method a cartilage implant with a given surface can be engineered on the tissue carrier. The growing tissue is held in position on the carrier by thin clamps.

To provide optimal nutrition the tissue carrier is placed into a newly developed per(i)fusion culture container. Observation of the growing tissue is possible through the glas lid.
